Water Authority Limburg and World Waternet partner for more impact

22 March 2021

We are happy to announce that Waterschap Limburg (Water Authority Limburg) is the newest partner of World Waternet. On 22nd of March 2021, World Water Day, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding that represents a joint expression of interest in working together to improve the performance of water organisations worldwide. World Waternet collaborates with fellow water organisations in the Netherlands to meet the growing demand for the transfer of knowledge and skills abroad. Potential countries of cooperation are Laos and Jordan, with key themes being climate adaptation and wastewater treatment.

Erik Keulers (Secretary-Director Water Authority Limburg) and Frodo van Oostveen (CEO World Waternet) sign the agreement.

Waterschap Limburg is the regional water authority of the province of Limburg. They ensure safe dikes, clean water and sufficient water in the region. With 300 employees, Waterschap Limburg serves 1.1 million people. As member of the Dutch Water Authorities, Water Authority Limburg brings in special expertise on cross-border water management, as this is part of their daily activities, sharing 70% of its borders with Germany and Belgium.

"We have been looking for experienced cooperation partners to jointly undertake activities abroad that contribute to better water management abroad and also provide new insights for our own water management. This is an important step in that direction," says  Patrick van der Broeck, Dijkgraaf (Chairman) of Water Authority Limburg

World Waternet is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving sustainable access to clean, sufficient and safe water for all. World Waternet supports public water organisations through peer-to-peer knowledge exchange in water cycle management, through long-term Water Operators’ Partnerships with water organisations in more than 15 countries to strengthen capacity, improve performance and enable them to provide a better service to more people.
