Building a Sponge City in Wuhan to prevent flooding and water damage

Sponge City is an initiative of the Chinese government focused on the development of infrastructure in order to retain, store and purify rainwater in an ecological way, in order to prevent flooding and water damage in the fast growing Chinese cities. Wuhan is one of the cities that has implemented Sponge City.

Our impact

The local government of Wuhan learned from our experience with water-related legislation and regulations in Amsterdam, in order to use this knowledge for the implementation of Sponge City.

We provided knowledge of water-related legislation and regulations to the local government of Wuhan.

Obtained results

We engaged in workshops provided to the local government of Wuhan on legislation and regulations.
