European Bank for Reconstruction and Development pays visit to Waternet
11 July 2019On Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 July, some twelve bankers from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) visited the Netherlands for a Water Study Tour, organized by the Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) and International Water Conferences (IWC). The aim of the study trip was to operationalize the structural cooperation between the EBRD and the Dutch water sector.
On Wednesday afternoon, World Waternet received the delegation at the head office of Waternet. First we visited the AMS Institute (Amsterdam Metropolitan Solutions) to learn more about Climate change adaptation, such as the Smartroof 2.0. This roof is an innovative, lightweight, blue-green roof, that has been installed on Building 002 at the Marineterrein Amsterdam. It aims to demonstrate the function and value of the combination of Blue (rainwater catchment, storage and reuse) and Green (biodiverse) roofs for resilient and climate adaptive cities.

After a boat trip to the head office of Waternet, World Waternet organised a networking dinnerbetween the EBRD and several companies that operate in the Dutch water sector. Representatives from Witteveen & Bos, Royal Haskoning DHV, MottMacDonald, KWR, Boskalis, Deltares, Kuiper Compagnons, Nijhuis, Ecorys, GCA were present. World Waternet used this opportunity to pitch a proposition for cooperation between World Waternet and development banks. World Waternet aims to bring together international financial institutions and the Dutch water sector, to create more impact and ultimately, provide clean water and sanitation for all across the world!
