Waternet fundraising for victims of the tsunami in Indonesia a success!

28 January 2019

Waternet and public water authority Delfland raised money for the fishermen affected by the tsunami in West Java.

On 22 December 2018, the west of Java (Indonesia) was severely hit by a tsunami. Within a Water Operator Partnership, World Waternet, public water authority Delfland and the local authorities of Banten have been working together in the area, in the province of Banten, also on flood protection.

World Waternet and Delfland contacted their partners in that area (Pandeglang) after the tsunami, and were told that mainly the local fishing industry is in need of urgent assistance. In the past weeks, Waternet and Delfland organized a fundraising campaign to collect money for local ngo LAZ Hafra that supports fishermen whose boats have been damaged or destroyed by the tsunami.

World Waternet and Delfland focus on long-term partnerships and lack experience in offering emergency aid. Therefore, it was decided to donate money to LAZ Hafra, that will make sure fishing boats are repaired or renewed, so fishermen can get out on the water as soon as possible and resume their daily livelihood. Thanks to the generosity of the employees of Waternet and Delfland, the fundraising campaign was a success! An amount of 1638 euro was collected, which was doubled by Managing Directors of Waternet and Delfland. So in total, 3276 euro will be donated to ngo LAZ Hafra. We hope that this amount will give a few fishermen a push in the right direction!
