Chairman of Waternet Amsterdam Regional Water Authority Gerhard van den Top will join trade mission to India to promote Dutch governance of water management

22 May 2018

From the 22-25 May, Minister Schouten, Minister Kaag, Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen, Minister Bruins and Mayor Krikke of the Hague and VNO-NCW chairman Hans de Boer will visit India with a business delegation consisting of 130 companies and organisations. Prime Minister Mark Rutte joins the visit on the 24-25 May. The delegation consists of companies active in the high-tech, smart cities, water/logistics/maritime, agri/horticulture and life science and health sectors. The delegation will visit Mumbia, New Dehli and Bangalore. Gerhard van den Top, our Chairman of the Amsterdam Regional Water Authority Amstel, Gooi en Vecht, as part of this business delegation, will join this trade mission. India is now facing a water situation that is significantly worse than any that previous generations have had to face. All Indian water bodies within and near population centers are grossly polluted with organic and hazardous pollutants.

Gerhard will bring something unique to this mix of politicians, companies and organisations. He will stress the importance of governance as part of integral water management. Moreover, he will introduce Dutch approaches to partnerships with public Indian utilities.

Gerhard will participate in the following events:

Thursday 24 May

10:15 – 10:45 hrs: Meeting with Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen for Dutch Companies potentially active on the Clean Ganga program.

11:00 – 13:00 hrs: Inauguration of Indo-Dutch Ganga Seminar. 1st session: Innovative Financing Models for Indo-Dutch PPP Projects. Gerhard will be one of the keynote speakers and provide a presentation on “Institutional, Policy and Governance Setting of the Ganga River”.

Gerhard will give a presentation on our Water Operator Partnership (WOP) with Shilma in cooperation with the World Bank. Our WOP with Shimla can serve as an example for a new innovative financing model for water governance in India.

Friday 25 May

11:00 – 12:00 hrs: Session with Chairman of National Ganga River Basin Authority. Together with Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen, Arcadis and Nijhuis Industries, Gerhard will discuss the importance of governance in relation to cleaning up the River Ganga.
