Leading Utilities of the World initiative welcomes 4 new members

11 July 2018

The ‘Leading Utilities of the World’ initiative is a global network of the world’s most successful and innovative water and wastewater utilities. This Gold Standard utility network has 28 members. The aim is to create a global network of the world’s most successful and innovative water and wastewater utilities to help drive performance across the sector by recognising achievement, providing a network for sharing ideas, and inspiring others to improve.

During the session 1: Leading Utilities of the World, a further 4 new nominees were inaugurated as they presented their outstanding innovations and 5-year plan at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2018 on Tuesday July 10th. These new members are:

  • Queensland Urban Utilities, Australia (represented by CEO, Louise Dudley)
  • Houston Water, USA (represented by Director, Yvonne Forrest)
  • Water Supplies Department, HKSARG (represented by Deputy Director, Chau Sai Wai)
  • Phoenix Water Services, USA (represented by Director, Kathryn Sorensen)

A panel of the existing members, including Steven van Rossum, CEO of World Waternet, assessed the nominees’ presentations and provided constructed feedback.

It was very interesting to see the range of different water issues that the water utilities are coping with. Some have to cope with too much water, resulting in serious flood risks. Others are faced with severe water scarcity. All of these utilities distinguish themselves from others in terms of unique innovative and creatives approaches, which serve as inspiring examples for others. Like floating PV stations in fresh water bassins to generate energy, reduce evaporation and algea growth.

With these 4 new additions to the network will further engage the aspirations of other utilities, and through the sharing of innovation and experience create a wider trend towards higher performance.
